The best sourcing channel depends on the product. eBay is useful for highly searchable models, auctions, bundles and local pickup. It also provides marketplace research through sold/completed search. The strongest sourcing edge often comes from poor titles, weak photos, overlooked bundles or auctions that do not attract the right audience.

Car boot sales and local markets
Offline sourcing removes marketplace competition and postage, and you can physically inspect many items. The trade-off is time: stock is inconsistent and you may spend hours without finding anything. Bring a short target list rather than buying random items because they look cheap.
Charity shops
Charity shops can work for clothing, media, collectables and small household items. Pricing knowledge has improved, so the opportunity is often in niche items the shop cannot research quickly rather than obvious premium brands. Condition inspection is easier because the item is in your hands.
Local collection listings
Bulky or awkward items can sell below national market value when the seller wants collection only. That can reduce competition, but transport time and fuel become part of your acquisition cost. Local-only sourcing works best when the resale route is also practical.
Auctions, clearance and job lots
Volume sourcing can reduce unit cost, but it also concentrates risk. Do not value a job lot by multiplying the best possible unit resale price by the item count. Account for unsellable stock, missing parts, testing time and the capital tied up while the lot is broken down.
Your own unused items
For a beginner, the lowest-risk stock is often already at home. Selling items you no longer use teaches photography, listing, packaging, buyer communication and platform workflow without risking new sourcing capital.
