EBAY AUCTION RESELLING

Bid from a maximum price, not from auction emotion.

An auction can turn a good resale candidate into a bad deal one bid at a time. The safest discipline is to define the highest acceptable purchase price before the final minutes.

Start with a defensible resale range

Compare the exact product with relevant current market evidence. Pay attention to model, bundle scope, condition and any value-changing variants.

Choose the profit you need before calculating a bid

Decide your target profit or target ROI first. If you lower the target every time another bidder appears, the ceiling stops being a ceiling.

Include every expected purchase-side cost

Include postage, buyer-side charges if applicable, restoration costs you genuinely expect and any other cost that increases what the item will owe you.

Leave headroom for uncertainty

When market confidence is weak or condition evidence is incomplete, a lower ceiling can protect against the optimistic end of the resale range.

Stop when the auction exceeds the plan

The purpose of a maximum bid is to make the decision before the countdown pressure starts. Try the free max-bid calculator to work backwards from resale and target profit.
